Accra, Ghana

James Garland Herbert died of a ruptured aorta while on assignment in Accra, Ghana for the State Department as a Communication Specialist. 
He was adopted by his uncle, Clarence Roy Herbert and his wife Donna Mae Herbert. He was known as Garland and grew up in Forestville, Maryland where he attended Mt. Calvary School and graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington DC.
He worked for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company and the International Telephone & Telegraph Corp (ITT) where he traveled to Puerto Rico, Vietnam and Alaska before joining the State Department in August of 1971. His State Department job took him to Panama and South America before he was assigned to a two year tour in Africa. He was survived by his parents Clarence & Donna Herbert of Forestville MD, his brothers Gary, Steve and John Herbert, and a sister, Donna Lucille Herbert.
