Enrico Joseph “Rick” Carpenti, Jr. was born on June 13, 1946 in Washington, DC to Enrico Carpenti, Sr. and Adeline Spinelli Carpenti. He grew up in Washington, DC, known affectionately in childhood as "Rico". He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in 1964.
After graduation, he worked several years for Safeway grocery stores before embarking on a nearly 40-year career as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he was known by his co-workers and customers for providing cheerful and reliable mail delivery (no matter the weather!).
Rick was married to the love of his life, Gladys, from 1982 until her death in 2012 and enthusiastically embraced the role of father to her son, Michael.
Rick was an avid sports enthusiast and a lifelong fan of Washington sports teams. He channeled this love of sports into nearly 50 years as an official for Washington area high school football and basketball games. He is revered in the local sports official community for his boundless energy on the field and on the court, his high performance standards for himself and his fellow officials, and for generously mentoring and imparting his wisdom to generations of officials. Rick had many other interests in addition to sports. He was a voracious reader and particularly loved reading and debating about United States history and politics. He also loved many different types of music ranging from popular music of the 50s and 60s, 70s rock and roll and traditional blues.
He is survived by his son, Michael Kimbrough, his loving and devoted sister, Marie Carpenti as well as countless extended family members and friends whose lives he positively impacted.
