James Hynes

Jim's Obituary

James Carl Hynes peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 4, 2025, at the age of 78 in his hometown of Washington, DC. Born on May 25, 1946, in the very city he departed, Jim's zest for life and his unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

To his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Debbie, Jimmy was a devoted partner. He was the cherished father to Courtney and admired father-in-law to Bryan. His grandsons, Patrick and Kevin, will forever hold dear the memories of their grampy's guidance and abundant enthusiasm for life. Jim was a beloved friend and brother to Jerome (Bobbie), Jeannie (Peter), Judy (Bill), Joannie (Jess), and favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, a bond that time and distance could never weaken. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Hynes, and siblings John and Joyce, and many dear friends who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.

Jim's early years were spent in the nurturing environments of St. Ann's Elementary School and Archbishop John Carroll High School in Washington, DC. He earned a bachelor's degree in History from Biscayne College (presently known as St. Thomas University) in Miami, FL, where he met his future wife, Debbie. Known for his entrepreneurial spirit and magnetic personality, Jim was not just a successful salesman but also a proud business owner of Corporate Security Products, which he sold in 2011 and retired.

He was a man who embraced life with both hands and lived it to the fullest. Jim was an avid golfer, a pastime he cherished and often used to connect with friends. His love for his grandsons, Patrick and Kevin, knew no bounds, and he took great joy in celebrating their games, performances, achievements, and milestones. Jim's adventurous spirit led him to travel the world, with one of his most memorable experiences being a jet trip around the globe, a testament to his love for exploration and discovery.

Jim's life was guided by the principle famously expressed by Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." He embodied this sentiment through his friendly demeanor, his willingness to lend a hand, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued.

Jim's legacy is not only found in the successful business he built or the places he visited but also in the everyday interactions he had with those around him. He was a native Washingtonian through and through, who will be remembered as someone who was always ready with a smile, a helping hand, and a kind word.

As we say farewell to James Carl Hynes, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by joy, love, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. His story does not end here, for his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Jim's life reminds us all to seize the day and to cherish the time we have with our loved ones.

Rest in peace, Jim. Your memory will be a treasure we hold close, always and forever.
